Upper Hurst Farm is a family-run caravan and camping site in a rural Idyll that is surrounded by hills and is close to the picture-postcard village of Hartington. A perfect, tranquil setting for Peak District Camping and exploration.
Our toilet and shower block has been likened to a 5-star hotel and our generous super pitches (25) and camping pitches (15) enjoy almost 360-degree panoramic views over the stunningly beautiful Peak District National Park. There is a family and dog-friendly pub within walking distance (0.7mile).
RELAX & RE-CONNECT WITH NATURE
Our ethos is nature-based and we encourage biodiversity in our fields and hedgerows, with the majority of our energy provided from sustainable sources or directly from the sun from solar panels. Animals are now finding us and we have a pair of alpacas, four Jacob’s sheep, a resident (free range) peacock called Benedict and four characterful and friendly mini Shetland ponies.
We have resident little owls (which are not at all common) as well as other indigenous owls and buzzards, and peregrine falcons are a common sight; one of our campers has photographed a red kite here.
FAMILY FRIENDLY CAMPING
The toilet and shower block has underfloor heating and the showers offer unlimited hot water (without press buttons). We have a large wet room, which is suitable for people with access needs and we also make it available to families with small children and babies. There is a kitchen area for washing up and a washing machine, dryer and small freezer for ice packs.
We mow a large area in an adjacent field for children to play in where they are extremely safe (totally away from traffic) and is away from the pitches. This allows the campers to have peace and quiet on their pitch and allows the children to let off steam and kick a ball as hard as they want!
The mini Shetland ponies are a huge attraction for the children and they are at the far end of this field. This field is managed as a wild flower meadow and is cut as late as possible (so we can all enjoy) for hay. The grasses and wildflowers grow to a height of up to four feet. To see the smaller children running around the many paths that we mow, when the grass can be taller than them, is an absolute delight.
Upper Hurst Farm is rural, but convenient for the market towns of Buxton, Bakewell, Ashbourne and Leek, which are all around 10 miles from the site; they offer a wide range of shopping and leisure facilities. There is a newly opened village store in Hulme End (0.8 mile) and two larger grocery shops in Hartington (2 miles), which provide most needs (most of my shopping is done there).
PASTORAL PEAK DISTRICT CAMPING
Our site is a paradise for walkers, cyclists and nature-lovers alike. We are in the centre of two stunning dales and we are just 1 mile from the River Dove (takes you to Hartington, Dove Dale and Biggin via Biggin Dale) and 1 mile to the River Manifold and the start of the Manifold Trail and we are about 3 miles from the Tissington Trail. The Monsal Trail is near Bakewell and Chatsworth, which is about 11 miles away.
There is so much more to see and do, here are more details about exploring the area.
“A LITTLE OASIS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE COUNTRYSIDE…”
At Upper Hurst Farm you can slow the mind chatter by connecting with nature and becoming more attuned with your natural, peaceful self.
